France 2 0 Austria Les Bleus Earn A Much Needed Victory In The Nations League

France 2 - 0 Austria: Les Bleus earn a much-needed victory in the Nations League

Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud scored the goals as France beat Austria 2-0 in a League A Group 1 match at the Stade de France on Thursday.

The result ended a run of three consecutive draws for Didier Deschamps' side, who had failed to win any of their previous four matches in the competition.

France started the match brightly and took the lead in the 28th minute when Mbappe fired home from close range after being set up by Antoine Griezmann. The hosts doubled their advantage in the 35th minute when Giroud headed in a cross from Benjamin Pavard.

Austria improved after the break but were unable to find a way past the French defense. The closest they came was in the 65th minute when Marcel Sabitzer's shot from outside the box hit the post.

The victory moves France up to second place in Group 1, two points behind leaders Denmark. Austria remains in fourth place, one point above bottom side Croatia.

France will next face Denmark in Copenhagen on Sunday, while Austria will host Croatia in Vienna.
